About This Quote

Although this story doesn't appear in the book, I think it's important to understand that this quote is recorded in The National Lampoon, a satirical news magazine. In a June 1975 issue, The Lampoon ran a story about a kidnapping, which was profiled by reporter Matt Bowen. In the article, a reporter interviews a man named Robert "Ace" Kerik who claims to have kidnapped over 50 babies over the years. The police believe Kerik and take him into custody.

When asked why he did it, he explained that he had been an orphan himself and needed money to support his drug habit. He also claimed that he didn't feel bad about what he'd done because he believed that the mothers would have been better off without their children anyway.
